GLA:D Australia Program Evaluation 2021

A key implementation project led by the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre is the Good Living with osteoArthritis from Denmark (GLA:D) program. GLA:D was developed to help bridge the gap between guidelines and practice to implement effective education and exercise for people with hip and knee osteoarthritis. The program was originally developed in Denmark and was adapted to the Australian health system context, beginning in 2016.

In a recent program evaluation published by program leads A/Prof Christian Barton, A/Prof Joanne Kemp and A/Prof Kay Crossley, findings indicate the program is effectively providing training to Australian physiotherapists to implement appropriate first-line care to Australians with osteoarthritis.

The program is also associated with many positive outcomes for people with knee osteoarthritis.

However, program access is currently limited due to various factors, most of which require health system funding reform.
